MSNBC has suspended star anchor Keith Olbermann for donating to three Democratic candidates during this past election. Politico reported that Olbermann had donated $2400 each to Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords both of Arizona, and to Kentucky Senate contender Jack Conway. Reports are NBC News policy does not prohibit employees from donating to political candidates, it requires them to obtain prior approval from NBC.
Olbermann defended his donation, saying, “I did not privately or publicly encourage anyone else to donate to these campaigns nor to any others in this election or any previous ones, nor have I previously donated to any political campaign at any level.“ NBC was forced to act on Olbermann’s failure to obtain approval that prompted the suspension.
Olbermann suspension is not a firing at the moment but it could lead to it because there was no time frame for Olbermann’s return. Perhaps Olbermann can return back to ESPN where he had a major fan base as a top sports anchor.
