Republicans Block Big Oil Bailout By Michael Coker New Jersey Republican Senators Robert Menendez and senior Democratic Frank Lautenberg along with Florida Senator Bill Nelson unanimously pushing bill that would raise liability caps of all oil companies increasing liability from the current $75 million to $10 billion the cost from oil environmental disaster caused by their carelessness. Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, lobbyist for big oil, objects to preventing the Environmental Protection Agency from holding oil companies accountable of any liability. Murkowski also wants to provide big oil with an additional $140 billion. Murkowski along with her fellow oil constituent are protecting negligent oil companies like BP that caused this past April oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Murkowski and her constituents are attempting to leave big oil companies negligence on the tax payer to pay for big oil and BP’s liability. Because BP cut corners that caused the explosion and fire sinking the Deepwater Horizon, 11 deaths spewing millions of gallons of oil which is destroying marsh lands, coastal shores, fishery industry, sea animals, wildlife, tourism and beaches along the shores of Louisiana, Mississippi Alabama and Florida. Murkowski does not want BP to pay the full cost of the oil spill. Murkowski is pushing for oil companies’ profits that won’t be used as a cost for cleanup. Menendez, Lautenberg, Nelson and many other politicians will introduce legislation that would raise the cost that big oil companies would have to pay for any effect on the economy and environmental disasters in the event of a spill like BP’S. According to reports, the bill is being called “Big Oil Bailout Prevention Act”. This makes no sense that a senator from Alaska would attempt to pass legislation preventing liability on oil companies, especially since the Exxon Valdez disaster affected her state which took 20 years to settle claims that Exxon agreed to pay then fought against.
